This “Wheels in Motion” bicycle giveaway took place at Union Elementary.

Our club has partnered with the Gallatin Police Department and Gallatin area elementary schools for a program we call “Wheels in Motion.”

The schools choose a child each month who has displayed good citizenship: our club rewards them with a bicycle for displaying those characteristics and we talk about our four-way test as a way to practice good citizenship; the police department gives the winner a bike helmet and the officer in attendance talks about bicycle safety.

It is a very memorable event for a child; I mean, what kid wouldn’t love to have a shiny new bike to show off in their neighborhood?!

As proof, here is a story: club member Angela Alexander last year told the club of an encounter she had a grocery store – a child recognized Angela as “The Bike Lady” and the girl working at the store said she was once a recipient of a bicycle and remembered it well.
